About Maharashtra

Maharashtra is one of the 29 states, located in the western part of India. Mumbai is the state's capital city as well as called as the financial capital of India. Mumbai is the headquarters of all major banks, financial institutions and insurance companies in the country.

Maharashtra has a long coastline stretching nearly 720 kilometres along the Arabian Sea. Deccan Plateau is the most prominent feature of the state and is separated from the Konkan coast by the Ghat section. Western ghats is known as Sahayadri mountain ranges. Satpura Hills along the north and Bhamragad  - Chiroli - Gaikhuri ranges on the east form the natural borders of the state and the land area is surrounded by Gujarat to the north west, Madhya Pradesh to the north, Chhattisgarh to the east, Telangana to the south east, Karnataka to the south and Goa to the south west. Krishna, Bhima, Godavari, Tapi-Purna and Wardha-Wainganga are the main rivers running through the state of Maharshtra.

How to reach Maharashtra?
Mumbai is the international airport in the state. The airport connects almost all the major cities by flights in India and abroad.
You can get a connection train from anywhere in India to Mumbai.  The city is easily reachable from all over India.
The city is connected by national highways which run through the state to other parts of the country.

Punjab


Punjab is one of the 29 states and is located in its north western part of India just below the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The state is bordered by Jammu and Kashmir to the north, Himachal Pradesh to the east, Haryana to the south and southeast, Rajasthan to the southwest, and the Pakistani province of Punjab to the west. Chandigarh is the state capital of both Punjab and Haryana its neighbouring state. Chandigarh is an Union Territory by itself.

At the time of Indian Independence, Punjab province was divided in to two namely, Indian Punjab and Pakistani province Punjab. Later in 1966 it was again divided in to Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Punjab literally means Land of Five rivers and the five rivers are Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, Chenab and Jhelum. Punjab has a majority of Sikh population and Hindus are also found there in large numbers.

Climate in Punjab
There are three main seasons in the state of Punjab. They are namely hot season  from mid-April to the end of June, rainy season from early July to the end of September and the cold season from early December to the end of February.

Flora and Fauna
The state is filled with large wetland areas around the rivers, number of bird sanctuaries that houses various varieties of bird species and a large number of zoological parks.
Since there are no thick forests found in the state you can see only patches of greenery and shrubs with a variety of flowers. A delicious variety of mango is also found in the state. The other fruits prominently grown in the state are orange, apple, fig, quince, almond, pomegranate, peach, mulberry, apricot and plum.
In the Shivalik Regions in the north eastern parts of the state a large variety of fauna are found, lke   396 different types of birds, 214 different kinds of Lepidoptera and 55 varieties of fish species. Reptiles of 20 different types are also found there as well as 19 different species of mammals.

Places to visit
Few of the wetlands that can be mentioned are National wetland Hari-Ke-Pattan, the wetland of Kanjli and the wetlands of Kapurthala Sutlej. The Harika wildlife Sanctuary in district of Tarn Taran Sahib, Zoological Park in Ropar, Chhatbir Bansar Garden located in Sangrur Aam Khas Bagh situated in Sirhind, Amritsar’s famous Ram Bagh, Shalimar Garden in Kapurthala and the famous Baradari Garden in city of Patiala are some of the other places to visit in the state.

About Chhattisgarh


Chhattisgarh is a state located in the central part of India.  The state Chhattisgarh was carved out from the sixteen Chhattigarhi language speaking districts of Madhya Pradesh.  Raipur is the capital of  the state Chhattisgarh.

Chhattisgarh shares its borders with Madhya Pradesh in the northwest, Maharashtra in the west, Andhra Pradesh in the south, Orissa in the east, Jharkhand in the northeast and Uttar Pradesh in the north.

By Air 
Swami Vivekananda Airport at Raipur is the main airport of Chhattisgarh.
Air Taxi services are available from the Raipur airport to various other cities in the state namely, Korba, Jagdalpur, Raigarh, Ambikapur and Jashpur.

By Rail
Bilaspur is the headquarters of the Southeast Central Railway Zone. The network of railways is centered around Bilaspur and covers almost all of the state. Mahasamund, Durg, Champa and Rajnandgaon are the other main railway stations of the state.

By Road
The state is covered with 11 national highways passing through Chhattisgarh. The state highway has also laid good roads throughout the state connecting all the tehsils and their headquarters.

Uttarkhand / Uttaranchal

Uttarakhand also known as Uttaranchal is one of the 28 states, located in the northern part of the Indian sub continent. Since there are many holy temples and Pilgrimage centres of the Hindu Religion here, it is also called as the Land of the Gods. The state was carved out of the Himalayan and the north western parts of the state of Uttar Pradesh in the year 2000. The state shares borders with Tibet Autonomous Region on the North, MahaKali Zone of the Nepal on the East, Uttar Pradesh on the south and Himachal Pradesh on the northwest.
The state Uttarakhand is divided into two divisions Kumaon and Garhwal. It has 13 districts with Dehradun as the capital city.
Almora, Champawat, Bagheshwar, Nainital, Pithoragarh and Udhamsingh Nagar from the Kumaon Division.
Dehradun, Teri garhwal, Haridwar, Uttar Kashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pauri Garhwal from the Garhwal division.

About Uttaranchal / Uttarkhand, one of the states in India
Uttarkhand / Uttaranchal, a state known for its natural beauty, is  located in North India.  This state was carved out of the Himalayan regions  and the nearby adjoining districts of Uttar Pradesh in the year 2000, thus becoming the 27th state of the Republic of India. The borders of the state of Uttaranchal / Uttarkhand are Tibet autonomous region on the north, Uttar pradesh on the south, Haryana to the west and Nepal to the east. Himachal Pradesh islocated on the Northwest of Uttaranchal. Dehradun is the  provisional capital , the railway station, airport and the largest city of the state.

Uttarkhand  has a total area of about 51 sq kilometers out of which 93% are mountainous and 64% are dense forest. As most of the state are a part of the Great Himalayan Ranges, it is covered by high peaks and glaciers  while the lower parts have dense forests.  The Himalayan Eco system which is unique and one of its kind plays host to large number of wild animls like Bharal, Snow leopard, Leopards and tigers as well as rare herbs  and plants.

There are  many national parks there for the various types of Flora and fauna namely, Jim Corbett National park, Valley of flowers National park, Nandadevi national Park, Unesco world heritage site, Rajaji National Park, Govinda Pashu Vihar National park and Gangotri National Park.

Uttarkhand is also known as the abode of Gods, as there are some ancient hindu shrines, which are about a thousand years old, found there. Gangotri and Yamunotri the sources of gamga and the yamuna rivers respectively, fall in the upper reaches  and Badrinath dedicated to Lord Vishnu   and Kedarnath dedicated to Lord Shiva  tohether make Chardham pilgrimage circuits.
There are many other temples too of Lord Shiva and Durga the local deities but the architecture of these temples are typical of the region and slightly different from other parts of India.

Hemkund is nestled in the Himalayas  and is a pilgrimage center for the Sikhs. Mindroling Monastery  and its Buddha stupa is said to be the highest in the world and is located in the Southwest of Dehradun.

How to Reach Uttaranchal / Uttarkhand state
By air
There are three airports in Uttaranchal they are Jolly Grant airport at Dehradun, Pant nagar airport  and the Chakrata Airforce base near Dehradun. Pant Nagar airport is a domestic one and Chakrata handles only defence  based airport.
By Rail
You can reach Dehradun railway station through any of the major railway stations. Since this is a  capital city of the state of Uttaranchal as well as a connection to the tourist destinations in the area most of the trains travelling this side stop at the station. You can get connections from Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Chandigarh etc. Haridwar and Kathgodam are other main railway stations in the state of Uttaranchal.
By Road
Since capital city Dehradun and the state Uttaranchal are tourist oriented, there is a good network of roads in the state connecting almost all of the tourist destinations  like Almora, Auli skiing slopes, Jim Corbett Park, Mussoorie, Haridwar and many more.

Meghalaya one of the seven sister states in the North east

Meghalaya is one of the 29 states and is located in the northeastern parts of India.  The state shares its borders with Bangladesh on its south and west. In the north and east the state borders Assam, another sister state in the north east of India.

How to reach Shillong the capital city?
Umroi is a small airport located at about 35 kilometers from Shillong.  Air India operates a flight regularly to this airport.
Guwahati is the other nearest airport which is connected to almost all of the neighbouring cities. Gopinath Bordoloi airport in Guwahati is located at about 128 kilometers from Shillong.
Helicopter services are available from Tura and Guwahati  to reach Shillong. 

There are no railway stations in the state. The nearest railway station is Guwahati and is about 104 kilometers from Shillong.  Guwahati is connected to almost all the major cities in India.
Bus  services to Shillong are available coordinating with the arrival of trains and flights from Guwahati.

National Highway 40 connects Guwahati and Shillong and so Shillong is easily accessible. Meghalaya transport buses and the Assam state transport buses ply regularly to and from Guwahati  connecting Shillong.

About Gujarat


Gujarat, one of the 29 states in India, is located  at the western tip of the Indian Sub continent.  Gandhi Nagar is the capital of the state  and the language spoken by majority is Gujarati. Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Bhuj, Junagadh, Jamnagar are the important and major cities in the state.

There are 26 districts in the state of Gujarat, namely, Ahmedabad, Amreli, Anand, Banaskantha, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Dahod, Dang, Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Kutch, Kheda, Mahesana, Narmada, Navsari,  Panchmahal, Patan, Porbandar, Rajkot, Sabarkantha, Surat, Surendranagar, Tapi, Vadodara and  Valsad. If you are travelling by rail

About Jharkhand

Jharkand is one of the 29 states in India and was carved out of the southern part of Bihar. The borders of the state Jharkhand are  Bihar to the north, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to the west, Orissa to the south, and West Bengal to the east.
Jharkahnd state was formed on November 15th of 2000. Ranchi is the capital of the state, Dumka, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad and Bokaro Steel city are the other important cities .

Places to visit in Jharkhand
Hundru Falls are located at about 28 kilometers from Ranchi, thecapital city of the state. The river Swarnarekha falls from a height of 320 feet. It becomes a wonderful and enchanting but formidable falls during the monsoon time. The same place becomes a picnic spot during the summer time.

Dasham Falls is located at  about 40 kilometers from Ranchi. River Kanchi falls down from a height of 144 feet  and gives you many enchanting sceneries in the area.

There are many more places to visit in the state like, Lodh Falls and Johna Falls

How to reach Jharkhand ? 
Ranchi is the main airport and is well connected to the neighbouring cities like Kolkata, Patna. New Delhi and Mumbai are also well connected  to Ranchi.

Ranchi and Hazaribagh are the two main railway stations. Both are well connected to the rest of India through railway net work. Reaching anywhere in Jharkhand is very easy through railway network as the neighbouring states remain connected.

National Highways pass through the city of Ranchi and the other places in the state are connected to the capital with good and drivable network of roads.
State Transport buses connect all the important places in the state and it is easier to travel from one place to another.

Telangana, the newest state of India


About Telangana 
Telangana is the newest among the 29 states in India. The twelfth largest state in India state of Telangana was officially formed on 2 June 2014 by separating 10 districts fromthe state of Andhra Pradesh, with the city of Hyderabad as their capital for the time. Telangana is bordered by the states of Maharashtra, Orissa, Chhattisgarh to the north, Karnataka to the west, and Andhra Pradesh to the south and east.

Telangana was mostly made up of the princely state of Hyderabad (Medak and Warangal Divisions), ruled by the Nizam of Hyderabad during the British Raj. The princely state of Hyderabad joined the Union of India in 1948 after India's independence in 1947. In 1956, when the states were formed according to the liguistic groups, Hyderabad state was dissolved and the Telugu speaking part of Hyderabad was merged with Andhra to form the new state of Andhra Pradesh.

About Assam


Assam is one of the 29 states in India located south of the eastern Himalayas, in the north eastern part of the country. The area of the state of Assam comprises of the Brahmaputra Valley and the Barak river valleys along with the Karbi Anglong and the North Cachar Hills.

Assam is one of the seven sister states located in the north eastern part of India the others being Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and Meghalaya. Assam is surrounded by its sister states and has Bhutan, Myanmar and Bangladesh as its international borders.

Guwahati is the capital city of Assam and is considered to be one of the fastest growing cities in the world. The city is the gateway to the east. Silchar is the city for business, education and tourism while Dibrugarh, Nagaon and Jorhat are other important cities in the state.

How to reach Assam?
If you are travelling by air, it would be easy for you to reach Kolkata the nearest international airport or Delhi the capital city of India. You can get connection flights to Assam easily.

Borjhar Airport is located at about 25 kilometers from Guwahati, thecapitalcity of Assam. Silchar, Dibrugarh, Tezpur, Jorhat and North Lakhimpur are the cities which can also be connected by air in the state of Assam.

If you are travelling by rail you can get connections from any part of India namely Calcutta, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Cochin and Trivandrum to Guwahati

If you are travelling by road, you can see that all the neighbouring states in the north east and West Bengal in the west are connected by National Highways. Youcan drive through these enchanting highways all through the year except during the south west monsoon time which falls between June and September. The monsoon time is hazardous to drive.

About Kerala

 
Kerala is one of the 28 states in India which is placed on the Malabar coast of the South west India. Kerala was formed on the 1st of November 1956 when all the Malayalam speaking regions were put together. Kerala is bordered by Karnataka in the north and northeast, Tamil Nadu in the east and south and the Arabian sea on the west. Thiruvananthapuram, earlier known as Trivandrum is the capital city of the state Kerala. Kochi / Cochin and Kozhikode / Calicut are the other important cities in Kerala state.

Kerala's western coastal area is flat and is criss crossed by a network of brackish canals, estuaries, lakes, streams and rivers. The area is known as the Backwaters of Kerala, lake Vembanad being the most important one of all. There are 44 rivers in Kerala the most important of them are The Periyar, The Bharathapuzha, The Pamba, The Chaliyar, Kadalundipuzhathe valapattanam and the Achankovil. Most of the rivers in Kerala are monsoon fed and due to all these conditions Kuttanad is always under water as most parts of it is below sea level.

Kerala state has 14 districts namely Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Thrisur, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram.

How to reach Kerala?
Two National Highways run through the state of Kerala, namely, NH47 and NH 17. NH 17 connects Edappalli to Panvel in Maharashtra, while NH 47 is from Salem to Kanyakumari in the state of Tamil Nadu but passing through most of the southern districts of Kerala.

The other National Highways running through Kerala are;
NH 49 from Kochi to Dhanushkoti,
NH 208 from Kollam to Thirumangalam,
NH 212 from Kozhikode to Mysore,
NH 213 Kozhikode to Palakkad,
NH 220 from Kollam to Theni.

By Air
Kerala has three international airports namely Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode. All of these airports are easily accessible through Road and Rail.

By Rail
The railway network in the state is controlled by three divisions of Southern Railway, namely, Thiruvananthapuram Railway Division, Palakkad Railway Division and Madurai Railway Division. Thiruvananthapuram Central is the busiest railway station in the state and second busiest in the Southern Railway Zone after Chennai Central.

About Haryana


Haryana is located in the northern part of India. It is bordered by Himachal Pradesh in the north, Rajasthan in the west and south, Yamuna river running as a border in the east Uttarkhand being on the other side. About Goa, the smallest state in India


Goa is located in the west coastline of India and has an area of about 3762 sq kilometers. Panjim also known as Panaji is the capital city of the state of Goa. Margao(Madgaon), Vasco-Da-Gama, Ponda, Mapusa are the other main cities in the state of Goa.
Languages spoken in the state are Konkani, Hindi, English, Marathi and Portuguese.

About Chandigarh


Chandigarh is one of the 7 union territories in India and is located at the northern part of the country. The city serves as the capital city for both Punjab and Haryana statesbut the city is ruled by the union government and not by either of the two states.

Chandigarh is located at the foothills of the Shivalik ranges of the Great Himalayas.  The city has an area of 114 sq kilometers and placed at an altitude of 321 meters above sea level.

Chandigarh is a well planned city with pretty gardens and well laid roads and is well known for its design and architecture. The name Chandigarh was derived from the name of the Goddess Chandi who is the presiding deity at the Chandi Mandhir in Panchkuta district. 

How to get to Chandigarh?
Chandigarh is well connected by air, rail and by roads.
The airport is located at about 12 kilometers from the centre of the city.
There are two daily run trains connect Delhi and Chandigarh, Shatapthi and Himalayan Queen.

If you are travelling by road, there are two national highways No 21 from Ambala to Kinnaur, No 22 from Chandigarh to Leh connect the city with the Indian network of roads.

About Bihar

Bihar is one of the 29 states and is located in the eastern part of India. The states boundaries are West bengal in the East,  Uttar Pradesh in the west, Nepal in  the north and Jharkhand in the south.   Ganges river flows west to east  through the middle of the state of Bihar, dividing the state in to two parts.  
Bihar has a vast stretch of Fertile plains, made fertile by the river Ganges and its tributaries Gandak, Koshi originating in Nepal part of Himalayas. Bagmati river originating in the Kathmandu Valley.  The tributaries of the river Ganges are, Budhi Gandak, Chandan, Orhani and Phalgu. Himalayan ranges  influence the climate, landforms, hydrology and culture  of Bihar.

About Assam in India


Assam is one the seven states in the North East of the Indian sub continent. The State Assam shares its borders with Arunachal Pradesh and the Kingdom of Bhutan in the North and East, Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram in the south, Meghalaya to the south west, West Bengal and Bangladesh to the West.

About Arunachal Pradesh, the northeastern tip of India


Arunachal Pradesh is a state, situated in the north eastern parts of India bordering Bhutan on the west, China on the north and Myanmar on the east and the state of Assam on the south.
