About Chhattisgarh


Chhattisgarh is a state located in the central part of India.  The state Chhattisgarh was carved out from the sixteen Chhattigarhi language speaking districts of Madhya Pradesh.  Raipur is the capital of  the state Chhattisgarh.

Chhattisgarh shares its borders with Madhya Pradesh in the northwest, Maharashtra in the west, Andhra Pradesh in the south, Orissa in the east, Jharkhand in the northeast and Uttar Pradesh in the north.

How to reach Chhattisgarh?
Chhattisgarh is easily reachable from all the main cities by air, rail and by road.

By Air 
Swami Vivekananda Airport at Raipur is the main airport of Chhattisgarh.
Air Taxi services are available from the Raipur airport to various other cities in the state namely, Korba, Jagdalpur, Raigarh, Ambikapur and Jashpur.

By Rail
Bilaspur is the headquarters of the Southeast Central Railway Zone. The network of railways is centered around Bilaspur and covers almost all of the state. Mahasamund, Durg, Champa and Rajnandgaon are the other main railway stations of the state.

By Road
The state is covered with 11 national highways passing through Chhattisgarh. The state highway has also laid good roads throughout the state connecting all the tehsils and their headquarters.

Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary


Location Of the Sanctuary
Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most interesting and beautiful wild life parks in the state of Chhattisgarh in India. Barnawapara wild life sanctuary, established in 1976 under Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, is situated in the Mahasamund district of Chhattisgarh.

This wild life sanctuary covering an area of only 245 sq km.is one of the smallest, topography of the region comprising of flat and hilly terrains, altitudes ranging between 265-400 mts.

How to Reach Barnawapara Sanctuary?
This is located at about 85 kilometers from Raipur airport and 60 kms from the Mahasamund Railway Station. You can take a cab or a vehile near the airport or the station and reach Barnawapara Wildlife sanctuary via PWD forest road, which connects Raipur with Patewa and Pithora on the NH6.
Wild life at the Banawapara Sanctuary

Tropical dry deciduous forest with Teak, Sal, Bamboo and Terminalia being the prominent trees are mainly found in the flat terrains and some of the plants found there are Semal, Mahua, Ber and Tendu. To name a few of the wild life found in the area are Tigers, Sloth Bear, Flying Squirrels, Jackals, Four-horned Antelopes, Leopards, Chinkara, Black Buck, Jungle Cat, Barking Deer, Porcupine, Monkey, Bison, Striped Hyena, Wild Dogs, Chital, Sambar, Nilgai, Gaur, Muntjac, Wild Boar, Cobra, Python and many more. Parrots, Bulbul, White-rumped Vultures, Green Avadavat, Lesser Kestrels, Peafowl, Wood Peckers, Racket-tailed Drongos, Egrets, and Herons are some of the birds found in the area.

Barnawapara Wildlife Count: Tiger - 08, Leopard -50, Gaur - 563, Sambar - 207, Wild boar - 286, Sloth bear - 132, Nilgai - 158, Chital - 4,287.

Accommodation Facilities at the Sanctuary
Mohda Eco Resort is a premium property of the Chhattisgarh Tourism Board. It is situated right inside the wild life sanctuary facing a small beautiful lake.
You can stay there the night to see and feel more of the sanctuary. There are about 12 rooms in the Mohda Resort. There is a restaurant,and there is also a spacious elevated sit out (Machan) for viewing of wild life across the lake.

Indravati National Park, Chhattisgarh


About Indravati National Park
Indravathi National is the one and only Tiger Reserve and is located in the Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, in India. The park gets its name Indravathi from the river Indravathi which flows flowing from east to west forms the northern boundary of the park with the state of Maharashtra .

The area of the park is approximately 2800 square kilometers. The Indravathi park was declared a National park in 1981 and a Tiger Reserve in 1983. After the park was declared as a tiger reserve under the Project Tiger of India , it became one of the most famous tiger reserves of India

The altitude of the Park is from 177 to 599 m above the sea level and it has become famous for its unique and diverse wildlife and bird species including some of the most endangered species such as Wild Buffalos and Hill Mynas.

Beautiful hill ranges with lush green vegetation and unique and varied wildlife makes the park " a must see " for a tourist and a wild life enthusiast.

Flora and fauna of the National Park
The major wildlife in Indravati National Park include the endangered Wild Buffalos, Barasinghas, Tigers, Leopards, Gaurs (Indian Bison), Nilgai, Sambar, Chausingha (four-horned Antelope), Sloth Bear, Dhole (Wild Dog), Striped Hyena, Muntjac, Wild Boar, Flying Squirrel, Porcupine, Pangolins, Monkeys and Langurs among many others. The commonly found reptiles in the park are Freshwater Crocodile, Monitor Lizard, Indian Chameleon, Common Krait, Indian Rock Python, Cobra and Russell's Viper to name a few. The Park also gives shelter to the large variety of birds of which Hill Maina is the most important species here.

How to Reach the Park?
By Air: Raipur is the nearest Airport which is 486 kilometers away and the railway station is Jagdalpur which is 168 kilometers away.The Village Kutrue is the entry point to the Indravathi national park and the link road is situated at a distance of 146 kms kilometers from jagdalpur on the jagdalpur - Bhopalpattinam Road. From the Village Kutrue it is still 22- 23 kilomters to reach the park. It would be betterif you can hire a car from the railway station at Jagdalpur.

By rail: The nearest railway station will be Jagdalpur which is the district headquarters.

The nearest bus stand for Indravati National Park is Bijapur and the town is well connected from different parts of the state.

Best time to visit the National Park:
You can visit the park at any time of the year, but would be better to avoid the rainy days of the North east Monsoon and southwest monsoons. As such December to June will be the best time to visit the place.
