Punjab
Punjab is one of the 29 states and is located in its north western part of India just below the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The state is bordered by Jammu and Kashmir to the north, Himachal Pradesh to the east, Haryana to the south and southeast, Rajasthan to the southwest, and the Pakistani province of Punjab to the west. Chandigarh is the state capital of both Punjab and Haryana its neighbouring state. Chandigarh is an Union Territory by itself.
At the time of Indian Independence, Punjab province was divided in to two namely, Indian Punjab and Pakistani province Punjab. Later in 1966 it was again divided in to Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. Punjab literally means Land of Five rivers and the five rivers are Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, Chenab and Jhelum. Punjab has a majority of Sikh population and Hindus are also found there in large numbers.

Amritsar, Barnala, Bathinda, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ferozpur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Mansa, Moga, Muktsar, Patiala, Rupnagar, SASNagar / Mohali, Sangrur, Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar ( Nawanshahr) and Tarn taran are the districts of the state of Punjab.
Climate in Punjab
There are three main seasons in the state of Punjab. They are namely hot season from mid-April to the end of June, rainy season from early July to the end of September and the cold season from early December to the end of February.
Flora and Fauna
The state is filled with large wetland areas around the rivers, number of bird sanctuaries that houses various varieties of bird species and a large number of zoological parks.
Since there are no thick forests found in the state you can see only patches of greenery and shrubs with a variety of flowers. A delicious variety of mango is also found in the state. The other fruits prominently grown in the state are orange, apple, fig, quince, almond, pomegranate, peach, mulberry, apricot and plum.
In the Shivalik Regions in the north eastern parts of the state a large variety of fauna are found, lke 396 different types of birds, 214 different kinds of Lepidoptera and 55 varieties of fish species. Reptiles of 20 different types are also found there as well as 19 different species of mammals.
Places to visit
Few of the wetlands that can be mentioned are National wetland Hari-Ke-Pattan, the wetland of Kanjli and the wetlands of Kapurthala Sutlej. The Harika wildlife Sanctuary in district of Tarn Taran Sahib, Zoological Park in Ropar, Chhatbir Bansar Garden located in Sangrur Aam Khas Bagh situated in Sirhind, Amritsar’s famous Ram Bagh, Shalimar Garden in Kapurthala and the famous Baradari Garden in city of Patiala are some of the other places to visit in the state.

Golden Temple / Harminder Sahib
Harmandir Sahib better known as The Golden Temple, is located in the
city of Amritsar in the north western part of the state Punjab. The
Golden Temple is not just a Religious place for the Sikhs but is
considered as a symbol of human brotherhood and equality. The Golden
Temple represents glory, a distinct identity of the sikhs as well as
their heritage.
The temple is visited by all people irrespective of caste, creed or religion to seek spiritual solace as well as religious fulfillment.
How to reach the Golden Temple?
Amritsar , the capital city of Punjab is well connected to the nearby states and major cities like Delhi, Chandigarh and Jammu, by air, rail and road.
Rajasansi is the airport in Amritsar and is connected by domestic flights from the Domestic terminal of the Delhi airport
