Meghalaya one of the seven sister states in the North east

Meghalaya is one of the 29 states and is located in the northeastern parts of India.  The state shares its borders with Bangladesh on its south and west. In the north and east the state borders Assam, another sister state in the north east of India.

There are 11 districts in the state of Meghalaya. They are
West Jaintia Hills  ( Jowai )
East Jaintia Hills  ( Khliehriat )
East Khasi HIlls ( Shillong )
West Khasi Hills ( Nongstoin )
South west Khasi Hills  ( Mawkyrwat )
Ri Bhoi (Nongpoh )

How to reach Shillong the capital city?
Umroi is a small airport located at about 35 kilometers from Shillong.  Air India operates a flight regularly to this airport.
Guwahati is the other nearest airport which is connected to almost all of the neighbouring cities. Gopinath Bordoloi airport in Guwahati is located at about 128 kilometers from Shillong.
Helicopter services are available from Tura and Guwahati  to reach Shillong. 

There are no railway stations in the state. The nearest railway station is Guwahati and is about 104 kilometers from Shillong.  Guwahati is connected to almost all the major cities in India.
Bus  services to Shillong are available coordinating with the arrival of trains and flights from Guwahati.

National Highway 40 connects Guwahati and Shillong and so Shillong is easily accessible. Meghalaya transport buses and the Assam state transport buses ply regularly to and from Guwahati  connecting Shillong.
