The Indian Institutes of Management are autonomous and public institutions for management studies and research in India. They offer post graduate courses, Doctoral and Executive education programs.
Even though each IIM is autonomous and independent, all the institutes are governed by an IIM council for the administration and the overall strategy of IIMs in India. The IIM Council is headed by India's Minister of Human Resource Development. The council consists of the chairpersons and directors of all IIMs and senior officials from the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India
At present there are 14 IIMs functioning and 5 more are coming up in the near future.
