Dhirdham Temple in Darjeeling

Dhirdham Temple is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located very near to the Darjeeling railway station. This temple is a must see tourist destination in Darjeeling.

This Dhirdham Temple was constructed by Rai Saheb Purna Bahadur Pradhan, and was designed by a Gorkha architect, named, .Beg Raj Sakya. The temple resembles the well known Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu.

This Dhirdham temple has a statue of Lord Shiva just outside the main temple which depicts "Pancha Bakram Trinetram", which means,  Five facial expressions / different moods of the three eyes / Lord Shiva .

This temple has a style of Tibetan architecture from which we can see the Tibetan influence in the temple constructions of those days

The Aarti at the Temple  is held at about 8 a m in the mornings and 6 pm in the evenings.  Photographs can be taken only from the outside of the temple and the cameras are not allowed to be taken inside.
